Find Gold Nuggets with the Fisher F75

The Fisher F75 metal detector is very popular among gold prospectors and miners majorly due to its dependability as a reliable gold nugget detector. Globally, the F75 is one of the most popular gold detectors on the market right now, particularly popular in the goldfields of Africa.

The price of the F75 is within reach of the average gold prospector compared to some of the detectors out there that are several thousand dollars. The F75 costs less than $600.

Fisher Labs, the company responsible for producing the Fisher F75 is one of the oldest companies in the metal detecting industry, so they are already well-known for producing high-quality metal detectors at reasonable prices.

Features

The features of the F75 which make it an outstanding metal detector are discussed briefly below.

Weight & Appearance – the Fisher F75 is very lightweight and weighs a mere 4.7 pounds, making it a nice detector for day-to-day use. You can swing this detector all day with very little fatigue.

The F75 has a large LCD which provides a clear display of all information on metal detecting. The LCD also has a backlight that functions irrespective of the time of the day, but unlike some other metal detectors can’t be turned off.

The control panel is easy to manipulate even for a beginner and takes little time to learn. It runs on AA batteries and they have their own compartment located beneath the arm rest providing balance to the Fisher F75 interchangeably with the rest. The shaft of the F75 when assembled correctly gives you that feeling of being in control with good stability. A trigger switch on the underside of the control panel helps in turning the fast grab feature on or off. Overall usability of this detector is quite smooth and comfortable.

Search coils

The Fisher F75 allows users use different types of coils depending on the needs of the user. It comes from the factory with an 11” elliptical DD coil which would serve most purposes that users want in a detector. For a gold prospector or miner, a popular coil option would be the 5” DD coil which would give the user better separation of trash targets and also better functionality in mineralized soils.

The coils that work with the F75 are all waterproof, which means they can be submerged in water without fear of damage to the detector. This is great for gold prospectors who want to hunt in shallow water areas along creeks and rivers.

Ground Balance

The F75 blocks out signals from the ground, leaving those from metallic objects intact by using a ground balancing feature. The user picks the settings that would best serve the purpose of detecting in the environment they are detecting in.

The F75 allows the user the opportunity of using a Mode called the Fastgrab which works by gathering and sending information concerning the soil’s magnetic properties to the detector processor which helps in coordinating settings for different discrimination modes. This helps in separating metallic trash from valuable targets.

Ground balancing has a scale of 0-99 which states the type of minerals contained in the soil. It should be noted that the fastgrab feature is the automatic ground balancing mode of the F75 detector and its effectiveness decreases below 40 on the ground balancing scale. Hence manual ground balancing is ideal for grounds that have below 40 on the ground balancing setting.

Noise Cancel

The F75 has its unique noise cancel feature called The Digital Shielding Technology. This technology allows the miner reduce the noise in the surrounding efficiently without affecting the sensitivity of the detector. The only downside to this feature is that it reduces the depth of detecting by the detector, but it can still be beneficial in areas where ground noise is to excessive to work efficiently without it.

Functionality

The Fisher F75 uses several modes that allow the detector pick out gold and other non-ferrous metals with a high level of precision. These two modes are the all-metal mode and the discrimination mode.

The all-metal mode is used for detecting all metallic objects present in the user's location at any particular time. It will sound off on all metal items within its detection field when set to this mode.

The Discrimination mode masks certain metallic object from been detected depending on the settings that you use. Discrimination on the F75 can be adjusted to reject just the most obvious iron targets, but the disadvantage of using the discrimination mode is it often makes the finding of small and deep object difficult for the detector. This setting will miss more targets than you will in all-metal mode.

Another aspect of the functionality that is critical to gold prospectors is the sensitivity. A highly sensitive detector which the Fisher F75 is a typical example is an absolute must have for gold prospectors. The sensitivity of the F75 can be varied from a minimum zero to a maximum 99. Choosing the appropriate level of sensitivity is important in finding gold though picking a sensitivity on the high side would generate a lot of noise if the surrounding has electrical installations or the mineral content of the ground is high.

It is best to strike a balance and find a setting where your detector will run smoothly while still being as sensitive as possible for small and deep targets.

Summary

The Fisher F75 metal detector is a good buy if gold prospecting is the target thanks to its awesome sensitivity and good target detection in iron-rich soils that are common in the goldfields.

For gold prospecting, it is generally recommended that you hunt in all-metal mode and dig all metal targets that you encounter.

The Fisher F75 is a very reasonably priced detector, and I would not hesitate to recommend it as a good quality unit for use in the goldfields, and it can certainly be used for general use for coins and relics as well.
